Sebestapol, CA
Sebestapol was my favorite town of all the ones we visited in California. There were sculptures all around the town and dogs driving tractors!
Tom Waits lives around there and Aunt Jet got word he shops at the Ace Hardware. She wants to go pick up an application, get a job there, and then just wait. I thought it was a great idea. It would be a wonderful place to live, just north of San Francisco in the heart of wine country, with only 5000 residents. I would like to live there one day also. We loved everyone there and had lunch at the delicious vegan restaurant Slice of Life. It was right next to Whole Foods, which was the only grocery store in town. There were lots of people out for the farmer's market and it was a beautiful day.
Jonny, Najeeb, and I enjoyed playing at Coffee Catz on a Sunday afternoon. I especially enjoyed playing the grand piano they have there. The same piano Tom may have played on many times before...... oh Tom, the piano had been drinking.

Carly, you have an interesting perspective on following your dreams--especially with the shoes! I have been following my heart most of my life, and I think that is where the dreams come from. It always knows what the right thing is, even if it is a hard thing to do. And there is always a good feeling down inside when you do what you know is the right thing for you.
I pop by your blog occasionally and look, and decided to comment this time.
Luthor Burbank is one of my heroes, and I went to Sebastopol in 2000 to make a pilgrimage to the site where he developed sop many varieties of the food we eat everyday, like the Burbank Santa Rosa Plum and the Burbank Russet Potatoe...
it's a magical place I find it amazing that Tom Waits lives near there

Carly,
This is Ciskoe from the mandolin workshop with Jesse, Eric, and Dominic and your 'friend' hiding in the trees.
Back in 1997 to 1999, I lived in Occidental, the next town over from Sebastopol, before I left California and ended up in New Mexico.
My oldest picking pardners (since college) live in and around there, and one of them is in a musical contraption club that Tom Waits sometimes attends.
They are the Smilin' Iguanas. Check them out on their podcast page at:

The guy on the left holding the cutaway Martin is Gary, and he's the one that sometimes plays with Tom in the wierd intruments club.
Loved Apple Blossom Time, your puppy and that A-model.

PS: I'm working on that disc for you. Watch your mail box.
